Holistic Therapies

Acupuncture

Acupuncture supports the body's ability to heal and respond to stress. Hair-fine single-use sterile needles are inserted into acupuncture points to unblock energy ("qi") and elicit healing neurochemical and physiological responses. There's significant evidence suggesting acupuncture helps to relieve pain and promote balance in the body. Sensation from needle insertion is usually very mild. In fact, most people find acupuncture to feel quite pleasant.

Moxibustion

Traditionally made from dried mugwort, moxibustion, or “moxa,” is rich in essential oils like cineole and borneol. This heat therapy is applied to acupuncture points and other areas of the body to relieve pain, promote blood circulation, and optimize immune and digestive function. It benefits the adrenal glands, secretes anti-inflammatory hormones, and detoxifies the body. We also provide many of our patients with the tools and instructions for moxa self-care at home.

Cupping and Gua Sha

Used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years, cupping and gua sha both address stagnation and pain and enhance physical mobility. By compressing and decompressing the fascia and muscles, circulation and healing blood flow are increased. Not only for aching backs, cupping and gua sha can help everything from fevers to asthma to plantar fasciitis. We also frequently use both modalities in our facial rejuvenation treatments.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbal medicine is one of the cornerstones of traditional Chinese medicine. Practitioners apply modern-day scientific research to these ancient teachings and prescribe herbal medicines that address a wide range of health conditions, both acute and chronic. All our practitioners have undergone rigorous education in herb-drug interactions, allowing us to develop customized herbal formulas that are safe and effective. Our custom herbal prescriptions are written exclusively for the individual patient; they're designed to address the specific condition being treated, as well as the person as a whole.

Dietary Therapy and Nutritional Supplements

Food is medicine, and according to TCM, there are no one-size-fits-all diets: rather, your unique constitution determines which foods will best support your health and wellness. Based on your individual nutritional needs, our practitioners empower you to modify your diet to improve digestion, reduce systemic inflammation, and control your blood sugar and weight. We also incorporate the latest insights from modern functional medicine, often referencing your Western lab work and prescribing nutritional supplements for optimal health.

Therapeutic Exercise and Meditation

We all know that exercise is good for the body. Traditional Chinese medicine is unique in its emphasis on therapeutic exercise that takes a mind-body-spirit approach. Our practitioners can prescribe gentle movement practices like Qigong or Tai Qi to decrease stress and stagnation in the body, supporting greater longevity and wellbeing. We will also incorporate guided imagery and meditation instruction in treatment plans, as needed.

Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture

A safe, natural alternative to more invasive cosmetic procedures and surgery, facial rejuvenation acupuncture uses the body’s innate healing ability to lessen the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin as we age. In addition to stimulating collagen production and muscle tone in your face, facial rejuvenation treatments are grounded in the TCM principles of holistic beauty–promoting a healthy and bright complexion and allowing your inner spirit to shine through.
