RUFUS DOG RESCUE

ABOUT RUFUS DOG RESCUE

RUFUS’ LEGACY

My rescue dog, Rufus, bounded into my life with great enthusiasm in 2012. This nine month old bundle of brindle fur came pouncing out of the shelter doors at Berkeley Humane Society grinning ear to ear, ready for an adventure. One walk around the block and I knew I wasn’t giving him back. I can honestly say– best decision of my life.

At a time when I was dealing with some personal heartbreak of my own, Rufus’ unconditional love carried me through–without a doubt, he rescued me, and his wet, slobbery kisses healed my heart. One year later, he leapt into my now-husband’s arms, and we quickly became a family.

Through the years, we became increasingly aware of all the dogs in shelters desperately wanting homes. More than three million homeless dogs enter shelters in the United States every year. Sadly, many don’t make it to a home of their own. Shelters are full, foster parents are often maxed out, and municipal shelters and nonprofits leading the charge in the world of animal rescue are working tirelessly.

All dogs need homes, but rescue dogs are a special breed.

Their fierce loyalty emanates from their deepest desire to just have a happy, loving family to share their life with. That is my Rufus, and that’s why we’re here.

Our mission is to bridge the gap between local nonprofit organizations involved in animal rescue with potential owners, like you. We’ll highlight a few dogs (and a couple of cats!) each month with the goal of making a connection toward adoption. It’s our small contribution to finding forever homes for some sweet pups.

This is what Rufus would do, as part of his legacy of love.
